Juan Ignacio Stewart’s story begins in his mother’s kitchen in Antigua, Guatemala, where he learned the family recipes that inspired the Green Belly Foods brand he created in Boulder. Juan recalls stories of living between two very different worlds, how his education at CU Boulder activated a passion for social justice, and how he created a business sharing small batches of his home made Guatemalan hot sauces at local farmers markets. Juan’s unique perspective sheds light on the disparity between the two countries and how they are linked. His haunting observation that “our (Guatamala’s) poverty is directly tied to the wealth of this country” serves as a reminder of why we are so privileged to live in Boulder.
